On March 6th, 2018, Stephanie Clifford, better known by her stage name Stormy Daniels, filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court against the sitting President on the basis of the invalidity of a ‘hush agreement’ made in October 2016 between her and a company owned by Michael Cohen, the President’s former attorney.
In addition to the lawsuit, Daniels filed a separate motion requesting that the Court declare the Non-disclosure agreement void. She argued that the agreement was never valid because Donald Trump never actually signed it.
The matter was further complicated by Michael Cohen’s admission that he had used his own personal funds to pay Daniels $130,000 in what was a clear attempt to keep her quiet about a 2006 sexual encounter between her and the President.
Cohen plead guilty to eight counts of financial malfeasance, including the payment to Daniels. He also pleaded guilty to lying to Congress in regards to the $130,000 payment.
